About Chelsea
Chelsea was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her father served as a minister. Her family moved to Bakersfield, CA when she 9 years old. She studied at Vanguard University of Southern California, where her love for language deepened into a lifelong engagement with poetry and theology. Chelsea plays a variety of brass instruments, the piano, and guitar.
In late 2008, Chelsea sensed a call to move to South Carolina, where she met Jason Hamshaw, then Youth Minister at Prince George Church in Georgetown. They were married in January of 2010. When she is not chasing her boys or working at the church, Chelsea enjoys studying theology, teaching scripture, reading (mostly British literature- lucky she married a Brit!), theatre, and eating out just a little too often.
Songwriting took root in 2020 as she began exploring the intersection of poetry, Scripture, and melody. Her music often reflects themes of praise intertwined with lament—a thread deepened after her husband’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis in 2023. Through teaching Bible studies, leading worship, and writing songs shaped by Scripture, Chelsea seeks to draw others into the presence of the Lord, where beauty and sorrow are understood in His redeeming love.
